Prelude to the Season Awards
Each year the Arts & Business Council of Sacramento celebrates the companies, organizations and individuals who have made meaningful contributions to support our region’s arts and cultural assets.
The Arts and Business Council of Sacramento would like to invited member of the arts and business communities to nominate businesses, individuals and cultural organizations that have made a significant impact in the arts during the past year.
Also, we’re excited to tell you about two awards we’re offering for the first time this year… Arts Educator of the Year and Artist of the Year. Here is a list of all the awards that will be given on October 2nd at Prelude to the Season.
- Arts Management Excellence (for annual budgets over $225,000) - For a nonprofit arts or cultural organization who has demonstrated significant achievement arts management. The organization must exhibit a history of managerial and fiscal health, broad support from the community and artistic excellence. The award takes into consideration any outstanding accomplishments since January 2007. Two categories of organizations are recognized.

- Arts Executive of the Year - For a paid arts executive or manager who has demonstrated managerial effectiveness, community involvement and artistic excellence and in doing so, provides leadership to the arts/cultural community. The award takes into consideration outstanding accomplishments since January of 2007.
- Arts/Business Partnership - For a successful partnership between a business and an arts organization. The award recognizes a project since January of 2007 which best exemplifies cooperation, collaboration and creativity that has mutually benefited both organizations.
- Volunteer of the Year - For outstanding contributions of a volunteer to one or more arts organizations in the region (either nonprofit or educational) for service since January of 2007. Volunteer work may include consulting, fundraising, organization or hands-on contributions, and may also include service through the Business Volunteer for the Arts program.
- Arts Educator of the Year - For an outstanding contribution to arts education in the Greater Sacramento Region by an instructor at the K-12 or post-secondary level. The award will recognize development or execution of a curriculum or program that has demonstrated outstanding results by their students. The nominee may be an employee or volunteer for a school district, an arts organization or a public agency (e.g. SMAC).
- Business Support of the Arts - For a business, business owner or executive who has shown outstanding support since January of 2007 of one or more arts or cultural organizations in the Greater Sacramento Region.
- Individual Leadership - For an individual business or civic leader who has greatly contributed to one or more arts or cultural organizations in the region. The award recognizes dedication above and beyond professional responsibilities and that has made a measurable impact on the region’s cultural landscape. The award takes into consideration contributions over a long period of time, but emphasizes recent contributions.
- Artist of the Year - For an artist or partnership of artists (non-profit or commercial) who have made a recent significant contribution to the cultural life of the Greater Sacramento Region. Preference will be given to a contribution that has made an impact on lives either inspirationally or economically. Nominees should be based in the region and can be from visual, performing, multimedia, filmmaking or literary arts. The nominee can be from any discipline (i.e., a choreographer or a dancer, a sculptor or a curator, a composer or a musician).
