The Art of Collaboration

The Arts and Business Council strives to find innovative ways to engage business support of the arts, and to provide management expertise and resources to the arts community.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission has recently awarded us with a grant to asses the business community's capacity to support the arts, which will be implemented through a series of surveys and focus groups.
What role do you think the business community should play to support the arts? Email us

We are excited to honor those who continue to breath life and light into Sacramento's art scene, and this year the ABCS will be celebrating "The Art of Collaboration" at Prelude to the Season on Friday, October 2nd at the DoubleTree Hotel. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely,
The Arts and Business Council

Prelude is a special time to gather with friends and associates involved in the arts community. Program highlights this year included live performances by Motoshi, Forever Plaid, Michael Bayard, Theresa Keene and La Evolucion. We were thrilled to have emcee Kitty O’Neal of KFBK-1530, and a special presentation by California Arts Council's Muriel Johnson entitled "The Arts: Giving Business the Competitive Edge". Brian Crall of the Sacramento Comedy Spot introduced a fun sample of our newest program Improv for Business. As a last minute special treat, visual artist Jeremy Mayer exhibited a life sized female sculpture made entirely of vintage typewriter parts. Why do professionals volunteer to assist the arts?
“Putting a company's intellectual capital to work for society is not just altruistic; it is good for
business. Not only will companies make more-valuable contributions, but their employees will
gain important professional-development opportunities and greater personal fulfillment. What's
more, the corporation will have an opportunity to showcase its professional skills to everyone who
interacts with the charity.”

Prelude to the Seaon 2007 Review

This year's Prelude was a wonderful way to celebrate 20 years!  The Business Volunteers for the Arts Program has given hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of volunteer work to the community.  It was good to have so many people there to share this achievement.

This event was a wonderful opportunity to pay tribute to the community members who made such a lasting contribution to the region's culture through the Business Volunteers for the Arts program. The event also served as a kick-off for future volunteerism and patronage by highlighting the remarkable variety of arts programs in the Capital Region.

Congratulations to the Award Winners!
