We are thrilled to announce a new partnership with the Sacramento Downtown Plaza and the Arts and Business Council. The Flywheel Incubator program has secured 1600 sqft of rent-free retail space for one year. Scheduled to open in late February, the new space will be located in the South Plaza by Lens Crafters and AT&T. Mall guests will be able to shop locally created artwork, clothing, accessories, music, posters, books and more; create their own art pieces in an open studio; and attend special events and live music shows. Future plans include consignment and teaching opportunities for artists and creatives.

“This partnership helps us offer retail, event and engagement opportunities for nine Flywheel Residents to bring the arts to a really diverse audience. We are very grateful to the Downtown Plaza and excited to see them integrate local organizations and businesses into the Plaza’s mix of tenants.” said Michelle Alexander, Executive Director of ABC.

Estella Sanchez, founder and Executive Director of Sol Collective, just won a national contest for Siempre Mujer Latina Magazine called “Women who inspire”. Estella was nominated along with dozens of women doing wonderful work in their community all over America and was selected as one of five finalists last month. In order to win each finalist had to rally support via Facebook to receive the most votes and win the $10,000 grand prize. After an intense Facebook campaign Estella/Sol Collective won with 44% of the votes!

After being notified of her win Estella had this to say, “I feel really humbled I won. All of the finalist are doing amazing work in their communities. I’m really grateful that so many people were spreading the word on Facebook and getting excited during the contest! More than anything, the Sol Collective crew feels good that our community supports and values what we do. It’s a great way to start a new year!”

Sol Collective plans to use the prize money to launch a new music program for youth including music production classes and a music series, possibly even a label. Formerly the program had no funding source, so early on they decided that if they won the prize money, it would be used to launch a much-needed program. Sol’s music program will include the creation of a studio and a development program for young artists.

If there is one thing Sol has learned to do its squeezing every bit of value out of their resources, so they are excited to see how much they can squeeze out of this very exciting prize!

Founded in 2003, Sol Collective has been using art, education and technology to reach youth and empower communities for 10 years. Their programs include mentorship programs, cultural events, youth education and anti-recidivism programs, art series and community forums. Sol Collective is part of the inaugural class of Flywheel, Sacramento’s first business incubator for artists.

Hello Landfillart Participant:

Our project continues to create momentum. There have been over 850 completed projects received.

Many additional projects are presently being worked on world wide. A wonderful museum has expressed
a sincere interest in the Landfillart Project and has suggested that they perhaps should be the first venue for
a traveling show. The traveling show would encompass perhaps 200 Landfillart Projects.

As a result of the potential of this museum show I am anxious to complete the Landfillart Project.

Please pass on our website. www.landfillart.org. We need approximately 100 additional talented artists to “sign-on”.
If the artist mentions your name in their e-mail it will speed-up the selection process.

I am very excited about this museum showing and I am reaching out to you once again for help.

And again, Thank you for your participation.

Wells Fargo invests $70,000 in the Sacramento Choral Society & Orchestra

Sacramento, Calif., July 3, 2012 – Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE: WFC) announced today two $35,000 grants to the Sacramento Choral Society & Orchestra (SCSO) to support two large scale choral orchestral concerts for their 2012 – 2013 season.

The funds will help underwrite the productions costs of the SCSO’s traditional annual standing-room-only Home for the Holidays concert – renamed the Wells Fargo Home for the Holidays concert – on Saturday, December 8 in Sacramento’s Memorial Auditorium. Wells Fargo also plans to underwrite the SCSO’s year-end performance, Lest We Forget – An Armed Forces Salute on Saturday May 18, 2013 (Armed Forces Day) in the Sacramento Community Center Theatre. Wells Fargo’s total underwriting for the SCSO’s 2012-2013 season will be $70,000.00.

Wells Fargo’s support will help the SCSO maintain reasonable ticket prices for families in the region. Tickets to the Wells Fargo sponsored concerts will be made available to low income families, identified through their participation in Title 1 schools, as well as to a host of Veterans close within the region.

According to philanthropy experts, corporate giving is at its lowest level since the 1970s. Thanks to Wells Fargo’s outstanding concert sponsorships, the Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra and Conductor Donald Kendrick appear to be bucking the trend as they head into their 2012-2013 season. A fiscally accountable arts organization since 1996, the SCSO is thrilled to partner with Wells Fargo on this level to build community through the arts.
